The Final Advert & Reflection

This is my final advert for Yogacize...

Reflection:

It is great how this advertisement gets right to the point while remaining basic yet effective. This advertisement was fun to make since it made me think of some of the poorly created yoga advertisements you may see on the street. In my opinion, the main image and the text that describes the online yoga service are balanced well. If I had more time, I would have worked on this project longer and possibly played with with the text layout and typefaces more. I'm looking forward to developing my own project because it will give me much more time to focus on it and produce something in my specialty.

Final Advert Creation

I wanted to create my final advert using Photoshop.  I began by creating a new canvas on Photoshop, by clicking on 'file' then 'new'. In the dialog box I clicked on 'print' and 'A4'. I then clicked on 'create'.

I then opened the image I used originally in Photoshop, clicked on 'select' which led me to click on 'select all' in the top menu and then 'edit', 'copy' and then went to my new canvas and clicked on 'edit', 'paste'. The image was now on my canvas.  I aligned this using Photoshop guidelines to ensure the image was centred correctly. I then clicked on 'file' and then 'save as'. This icon enabled me to save my file as a psd - 'yoga advert'.

I then used the eye dropper tool, to select the exact pink shade (hex code: #B64D72) of the model's hair to use this as part of my main colour scheme on the advert. I then used the 'rectangle' tool to create a box in the centre. Followed by this, I wrote the title 'Yogasize!' in a bold, Sanserif typeface to draw the attention of the target audience. I used the font style Bebas Neue in font size 211 to help create this effect.

I then added the tag line 'boost balance and breathe bliss...' to the poster using the same shade of pink as the rectangle for the title/ company name.

I then added another rectangle with the same background and wrote the site name in the same font as the company name.

I then added the logo, and using the transform tool resized the logo and aligned it to the textbox.

Followed by this, I added text to the yoga mat on the image to tell the audience a little bit more about the service being offered. To make the text easier to read, I added a grey rectangle behind the text.

I then used the colour picker tool to match the exact shade of grey to the yoga mat for consistency.

I then changed the opacity to 30% of the grey rectangle, so that the image could be seen, yet the text could easily be read.

This is how the final advert appears.

These are the final layers of my advert on Photoshop.

Initial Plan: Advertisement

I started by sketching out a quick version of the advertisement I plan to create.  I intend to create a logo and call my company 'Yogacise'. I will also use an image of a yoga model to include on my advert.

The plan for the 'Yogacise' advert

I have obtained the following logo from the Stock image site, and will amend it using Photoshop to personalise it. I will add text and change the colour of the image. I chose this silhouette image as it clearly symbolises a woman doing yoga which is key to advert.

In preparation for creating my advert, I have saved the image below of a model doing a yoga pose. This is the image I will use as the background of my advert. As I was short of time in terms of completing the advert to meet the deadline, I decided to use an image of a female doing a yoga pose from Unsplash to save time. If I had more time, I would have contacted a local yoga instructor and would have taken some shots in the studio.

Creating an Advert: Ideas Generation

As my theme for my advert is yoga, I will be creating an advert for online yoga classes for young women. The idea is that young women can take time out of their hectic schedules and can do these sessions in the comfort of their own homes, to feel more calm and relaxed. According to (Pathare, 2021), practising yoga regularly, aids women to 'maintain better physical and mental health, energy levels, and self-esteem'. Fitness, mental health and wellbeing are increasingly becoming important topics in today's world. Yoga is a growing, 'global phenomenon' (Baer, 2017), which arguably may bring balance to mental health, well being and fitness. Before I create my advert, I will study what existing adverts are there potentially targeting young women doing yoga.

The PUMA Yoga Collection ft. Kareena Kapoor

This advert by Puma works well as a yoga collection promotional video by using celebrity endorsement. The advert cleverly features Bollywood's top actress: Kareena Kapoor, who is known for her daily commitment to yoga. The advert targets young women, encouraging them to take part in yoga in their hectic schedules, to find the bliss and calmness that Kareena Kapoor has achieved. Equally, it encourages the audience to purchase the new, fun, yoga collection by Puma, to help practice yoga 'anywhere and everywhere' (Puma, 2022) like Kareena Kapoor.

'Yogalosophy: 28 Days to the Ultimate Mind-Body Makeover'

The above is a book cover for a best selling book called: 'Yogalosophy: 28 Days to the Ultimate Mind-Body Makeover' by Mandy Ingber, also known as the celebrity yoga trainer who has trained many stars including Jennifer Aniston. The purpose of the book is to motivate readers to do yoga for 28 days for the 'ultimate mind-body makeover'. It is not surprising that the book was sold out, as it has a powerful title combining the words 'yoga' and 'philosophy' together. The use of colour pink with white and sky blue as well as the pose of Mandy in the centre alongside Jennifer Aniston's endorsement draws the attention of the reader to focus on the powerful yet memorable tagline '28 days to the ultimate mind-body makeover' (Post, 2016).

I think I will definitely use a similar shade of pink, with a young woman doing a yoga pose in my advert and will combine two words to emphasise on my title and company name. I also hope to use a short and snappy tagline for my advert.

This post above is an example of the backlash towards yoga and the attitude that some women may have towards yoga as an exercise. This may be due to the lack of time in their busy schedules (Burke, 2017). As a result, I want to create a advert that allows young women to make time to take a breather from their busy lives, boost their energy, maintain their balance and calmness by doing yoga in the comfort of their own homes.

I think an image of a young woman doing a yoga pose in her home with a potential short, snappy tagline of which uses alliterations and sums up the yoga classes experience like: 'Boost balance and breathe bliss..'. As yoga is form of an exercise, I am thinking of calling the title/ company 'Yogacise', merging the two words together. I will promote this as an online class that targets young women, providing them with an 'exceptional, elevating, experience' in the comfort of their own homes.

Advertisement: Logo creation

I kept the logo simple by choosing a silhouette stock image. I chose this image as it would appeal to young women who want to practise yoga.

I then used Photoshop to delete the background and make it transparent, so that I could use the logo without having a white background on my advert. I did this by using the magic wand tool and deleting the white background around the silhoutte. I then altered the colour of the silhoutte by using the paint bucket and select tool to change the colour. I changed it to a dark shade of pink to help create that feminine effect and help emphasise that the advert is focused on young, active females.  I then added the 'Y' using the text and changed the colour, to white to help personalise the logo to stand for yogacise.

My final logo looks like this:

I am satisfied with this end result. I do think that the colour will work well with the advert.

My Blog Buddy

Lauren Page

My Blog buddy will be Art, Design & Media Office & Studio Assistant Lauren.  I will be looking at her blog which is on Fine Art & Media and she will post comments on my blog to support me and my work - looking forward to sharing!!!

Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my blog! I am currently a Digital Media tutor at DMU. Throughout the year, I will be utilising this blog as an example to help teach Art, Design, and Media students the art of how to create a blog, post contextual research, and investigate their own working practises with pure ease.

As a pedagogical approach, I will whole-heartedly aim to complete the same work that Digital Art students have been assigned in order to demonstrate how I investigate my own working practises in my own field. I look forward to share and develop my working practices from previous experiences in multimedia, computer science, design, humanities and technology...

I will now commence by discussing an interesting photograph that was inspired by the works of one of all-time favourite artists Salvador Dali. The photograph features Salvador Dali himself photographed by world famous photographer: Philippe Halsman with Dali's work recreated. The fantastic combination of these two personalities have produced some magnificent and extraordinary work. Believe it or not.... This photograph was not created using Photoshop! This is a photography wonder in itself... This photograph is a great example of the result of creativity, co-operation, patience and pure hard work.

Salvador Dali (1948) Dali Atomicus
Photographed by Philippe Halsman

This photograph is a personal favourite as it showcases surrealism, motion and creativity in action captured by Halsman's team. Cats, water, a painting, a chair and Dali himself are all featured. The process of creating this timeless photograph is described by Time Photo: "Assistants, including Halsman’s wife and young daughter Irene, stood out of the frame and, on the photographer’s count, threw three cats and a bucket of water into the air while DalĂ leaped up. It took the assembled cast 26 takes to capture a composition that satisfied Halsman. And no wonder." (Time Photo, 2016)

This photograph is a special attempt to freeze the core of Dali's personality and work in one frame. As Halsman himself states that the purpose of the photograph was to capture the "real, undistorted personality and character". (Magnum Photos, 2022)

The photograph perfectly encapsulates the above words mentioned by Halsman. Dali Atomicus is a beautiful, surreal memory that has been preserved for eternity, capturing the essence of Dali's eccentric and surreal personality in the most perfect way imaginable. This image is over 60 years old and is often referenced to as a historic capture. I'm hoping that may be one day in the future someone may become inspired by my work too...
